PM Dahal cancels foreign minister’s Geneva visit

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has prevented Minister for Foreign Affairs Bimala Rai Poudyal from visiting Geneva.

The decision comes amid rumors of formation of a new coalition government without CPN-UML after the presidential election scheduled for March 9.

Minister Poudyal was scheduled to leave for Geneva later on Sunday to attend UN Human Rights Council Meeting.

Minister Poudyal’s press advisor Yashoda Adhikari told Himal Press that Prime Minister Dahal telephoned on Monday evening and asked her to cancel the visit. “All the preparations for the visit had already been made. But the visit has been canceled on PM Dahal’s direction,” she added.

Foreign ministry spokesperson Sewa Lamsal had informed the press earlier on the day about Minister Poudyal’s Geneva visit. She was also scheduled to attend LDC conference to be held in Doha of Qatar.
