KATHMANDU: The ruling coalition has forged a packaged deal to share important government positions.
The meeting held on Monday evening decided to give the important positions of President and Speaker to CPN-UML.
As per the understanding, CPN (Maoist Center) will get the positions of Prime Miniter and Deputy President, while the post of Deputy Speaker will go to Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP).
Maoist Center Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal took the oath of office and secrecy as Prime Minister of Nepal on December 26.
Coalition partners Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) and Nagarik Unmukti Party (NUP), however, have decided not to join the government.
As per the understanding reached on Monday, UML will get eight ministries, while it can appoint two ministers of state. Similarly, Maoist Center will get four ministries and one minister of state.
RSP will get three ministries, while Rastriya Prajatanta Party is expected to get two.
This understanding has ended hopes of Nepali Congress getting the position of President.
When NC decided to give a vote of confidence to Dahal, it was expected that it had negotiated with Prime Minister Dahal to get the position of President.
