Pushpa Kamal Dahal appointed PM

KATHMANDU: President Bidya Devi Bhandari has appointed CPN (Maoist Center) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal as the Prime Minister, as per Article 76 (2) of the Constitution of Nepal.

According to a source at the Office of President, Dahal will be sworn in at the Office of the President at 4 pm on Monday.

This is Dahal’s third stint as the Prime Minister of Nepal. He first became Prime Minister after the Constituent Assembly (CA) election of 2008. Likewise, he served his second term as the prime minister between August, 2016 and May, 2017.

Dahal has received the support of 169 members of parliament – 78 from the CPN-UML party, 32 from his own Maoist Centre party, 20 from the Rastriya Swatantra Party, 14 from the Rastriya Prajatantra Party, 12 from the Janata Samajbadi Party, six from the Janamat Party, and four from the Nagarik Unmukti Party. In addition, independent lawmakers Prabhu Sah, Kiran Kumar Sah, and Amresh Kumar Singh have also backed Dahal.

Not only at the center, this coalition is headed to form government in all seven proinces of the country.
