POKHARA: Commercial shutters built on the land of Amar Singh Secondary School in Pokhara-12 were demolished on Tuesday.
Entrepreneurs, who had been running shops for a long time from tin-roofed sheds built along the Prithvi Highway, agreed to remove the structures as per the requests made by the school management and the Pokhara Metropolitan City (PMC). The PMC had given these businesses a 15-day notice to remove the structures.
After business owners relocated their belongings within the given timeframe, the vacant structures were demolished on Tuesday using excavators deployed by the PMC.
A total of 51 commercial shutters operating in the area were vacated.
The Amar Singh intersection, which is considered the main gateway to Pokhara, had become an eyesore to Pokhara visitors for a long time.
Speaking on the occasion, Pokhara Mayor Dhanraj Acharya thanked the entrepreneurs for supporting the metropolitan city’s urban beautification campaign by removing the sheds.
PMC officials say discussions will be held with the school management for the rehabilitation of the displaced businesses from the area.
