KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index extended its losing streak to a sixth consecutive session on Monday, falling 43.89 points to close at 2,513.42.
The benchmark index came close to breaching the psychological support level of 2,500 points during the session. However, a late recovery helped it close above the key level. The index has now shed 115.98 points over the past six trading sessions, reflecting continued selling pressure in the market.
The Nepse index moved into negative territory right after trading began and remained there for much of the session. Unit prices of 253 scrips declined during the session, while only 21 advanced and four remained unchanged. Total turnover also fell to Rs 3.64 billion compared to the previous session, with 9.32 million units traded through 68,137 transactions.
Among individual stocks, Upakar Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha posted the highest gain of 13.16%. Ghorahi Cement Industry Ltd and 7% NIC Asia Debenture 2091 were next with gains of 7.57% and 6.01%, respectively. On the other hand, Mailung Khola Jalavidyut Company Ltd posted the biggest loss of 14.98%. Rasuwagadhi Hydropower Company Ltd and MBL Equity Fund were next with losses of 11.76% and 10.62%, respectively.
Shivam Cements topped the turnover chart with transactions worth Rs 263.87 million. Sarbottam Paint Industries Ltd and Reliance Spinning Mills Ltd were next with turnovers of Rs 159.19 million and Rs 121.43 million, respectively.
Except for the Manufacturing & Processing sub-index, which posted a nominal gain, all trading groups ended the session in the red. The biggest loss came from the Non-Life Insurance sub-index, which fell by 5.03%. Next were the Others and the Hydropower sub-indices with losses of 3.3% and 2.94%, respectively.
