KATHMANDU: The Shram Sanskriti Party (SSP) has objected to Prime Minister Balendra Shah’s remarks in parliament that Nepal has also encroached on India’s land.
Issuing a statement on Monday, SSP Chairperson Harka Raj Rai, popularly known as Harka Sampagn, said Sha’s remarks demonstrated that the government is not committed to protecting Nepal’s borders and territorial integrity. “The anti-national intent is clear—to dismiss the issue of border encroachment, to weaken our demand that Lipulekh and Limpiyadhura be returned to Nepal, and to suggest that Nepal should cede large areas of its territory to India,” the statement said.
The party also said the prime minister’s remarks had created serious ambiguity regarding Nepal’s image and position in the international community.
“The SSP and the Nepali people strongly object to and protest the fact that the Nepal government, which has largely confined the Nepal Army to opening ministers’ car doors and carrying out operations against settlements of poor landless people, has failed even to deploy the army to monitor the border,” it said. “Instead, the prime minister has claimed that Nepal has encroached on Indian territory in many places. This shows that the prime minister and the government are not committed to safeguarding the nation’s borders and territorial integrity,” the statement said.
