KATHMANDU: Former Prime Minister Jhalanath Khanal has said that Prime Minister Balendra Shah made an anti-national statement during Sunday’s meeting of the House of Representatives.
In a social media post, Khanal accused the prime minister of making a dangerous claim that Nepal has also encroached on Indian territory. “While speaking in the House of Representatives on Sunday, Prime Minister Balendra Shah went so far as to make the dangerous statement that Nepal has also encroached on Indian land. This is an extremely serious, unfortunate, incorrect, and anti-national expression,” Khanal wrote. “We Nepali people have been struggling against foreign encroachment for generations, and even today our country continues to face encroachment. Making statements that trivialize such actions and serve foreign interests is an anti-national act,” he added.
Khanal also questioned on what facts, evidence, or documents Shah base such a dangerous statement. He added that Shah’s remarks had dealt a blow to the patriotic sentiments of all Nepali people. “A person who makes such anti-national statements is not fit to occupy the office of prime minister,” he wrote.
Khanal further argued that Prime Minister Shah should apologize for the statement. He also called on the Speaker to immediately remove the remark from the parliamentary record.
