KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Balendra Shah appeared in the House of Representatives on Tuesday for the first time since May 31, but left after just 20 minutes.
RPP lawmaker Khusbu Oli was speaking when Shah, accompanied by Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) President Rabi Lamichhane, entered the House.
However, he stayed in the meeting for less than 20 minutes.
Shah had appeared in the House unannounced on May 31. He sought time from the Speaker to speak and took random questions from lawmakers. While responding to a query on Nepal-India border issues, Shah said that not only had India encroached on Nepali territory, but Nepal had also encroached on some Indian territory.
“You will be surprised to know a fact that I learned recently, only after becoming prime minister. India has not only encroached on Nepali territory, but Nepal has also encroached on Indian territory in many places,” he said. “Now both countries should study the facts, sit together as friends, and resolve the issue.”
Shah, who took the oath of office and secrecy on March 27, is yet to attend meetings of the upper house.
Sources said Shah and Lamichhane entered the House after holding a one-on-one meeting on Tuesday. They had also held such a meeting at Lamichhane’s residence in Budhanilkantha on Sunday.
