
KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) closed the week on a bearish note, dropping 12.60 points to settle at 2,661.64 on Thursday.
Market analysts have termed the decline, which followed a significant 62.25-point surge on Wednesday, as a natural market correction.
Although the index rose to an intra-day high of 2,687.39 on Thursday, raising hopes of investors that the benchmark Nepse index would breach the psychological 2,700-point level, the bourse erased all the gains and closed the session 0.45% lower.
Unit prices of 150 companies declined during the session, while 96 posted gains. However, overall market activity remained strong as total daily turnover surged to Rs 11.65 billion as 30.79 million units of shares changed hands through 103,319 transactions.
Ngadi Group Power Ltd logged the highest turnover of the session with Rs 784.59 million worth of shares traded. Sanima Mai Hydropower Company Ltd and
United Power Company Ltd was next with turnovers of Rs 654.92 million and Rs 570.1 million, respectively.
Among trading groups, five sub-indices posted gains while eight ended lower. The Finance sub-index posted the highest gain of 4.3%, while the Trading sub-index led the losers with a 2% drop.
