Janamat Party decides to expel two lawmakers

KATHMANDU: Janamat Party has decided to expel its two lawmakers.

The central committee meeting of the party held on Friday decided to take action against Binita Singh and Sonu Murmu.

Party Chairman CK Raut proposed to take action against the two lawmakers stating that their performance in parliament was not effective and that they had violated party discipline.

Binita, who is from Siraha, was elected to the House of Representatives under the proportional representation system from the indigenous nationalities cluster, while Sonu, who hails from Morang, was elected from the Dalit cluster.

Janamat Party has six members in the House of Representatives.

“The central committee has decided to take action against the two lawmakers. The President will have the final say now,” Chandan Kumar Singh, general secretary of Janamat Party, told Himal Press.

According to Singh, party chairman CK Raut will now take the necessary decision and inform the same to party secretariat.

The central committee also discussed potential action against executive committee members Sunita Sadaya, Irfan Sheikh, and Zoya Sheikh. The party had received complaints that these leaders were working against the interest of the party, Singh said.

Meanwhile, the meeting made amendments to the party statute and restructured the party secretariat. The party will now have a 50-member central working committee and a 35-member secretariat.
