KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Balendra Shah has said the government is pursuing a diplomatic solution to the long-standing border dispute with India over the Lipulek-Limpiyadhura region.
“The government has initiated diplomatic communication not only with India and China but also with the United Kingdom, as the dispute dates back to the British colonial period,” Shah said, responding to queries raised by lawmakers during a meeting of the House of Representatives on Sunday.
Shah also informed the House that a formal diplomatic note regarding the matter has already been sent to New Delhi.
“The government has already dispatched a diplomatic note to India regarding the disputed territory, and we have received a response,” Shah said. “Both sides have agreed to resolve the issue through dialogue involving historians, surveyors and other experts.”
Shah said the government’s policy is to settle the Lipulekh-Limpiyadhura dispute through bilateral and diplomatic means rather than unilateral action. “This issue will be resolved through negotiations at the table, based on historical evidence and international coordination,” he said, responding to a query raised by lawmaker Padma Kumari Aryal.
Shah added that the government aims to pursue a long-term resolution to the issue based on historical documentation and expert analysis.
