KATHMANDU: Senior leader of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP), Dhawal Shumsher Rana, has announced his departure from the party and unveiled plans to launch a new political campaign aimed at building a credible nationalist force.
In a statement issued on Sunday, Rana said he would determine his future political course based on suggestions and feedback received from supporters, fellow campaigners and political associates. He said he had also received support and encouragement from Nepalis both at home and abroad and would move forward in line with public sentiment and the demands of the times.
“I spent the past four years trying to steer the RPP in accordance with the aspirations of the people. However, ideological ambiguities and contradictions within the party prevented the RPP from moving in the desired direction,” Rana said. “If colleagues within the RPP believe their current path is the right one, I wish them well. However, I invite all those who wish to unite around nationalist goals with sincerity and mutual respect to join this new campaign.”
He added that he would pursue his future political journey without bitterness and focus on building a strong nationalist movement.
The announcement comes amid growing speculation that Rana, who served as the party’s general secretary, is preparing to form a new political party.
On Saturday, three former RPP chairpersons — Pashupati Shamsher Rana, Prakash Chandra Lohani and Kamal Thapa — issued a statement, urging party leaders and cadres to remain united and focus on strengthening the organisation. “The future of the RPP is bright,” the statement said. “If we strengthen the party and move forward with a robust strategy, we can achieve unexpected success in a short period and work towards restoring the Hindu state and constitutional monarchy.”
