KATHMANDU: Government spokesperson and Minister for Education, Science and Technology Sasmit Pokharel has said that people living along the banks of the Bagmati River and its tributaries have begun moving toward safer and more organized living conditions.
Landless or low-income people from areas such as Balkhu and Banshighat in Kathmandu are reaching Dasharath Stadium to register their details. According to Pokharel, a total of 72 individuals have voluntarily participated in the management process and completed their registration so far.
A joint team comprising the Department of Urban Development and Building Construction, the Kathmandu Valley Development Authority, the High-Powered Bagmati Civilization Integrated Development Committee, and the Kathmandu Metropolitan City Police has been mobilized for this effort.
“Along with data collection, health check-ups and necessary psychosocial counseling services are also being provided,” Pokharel said. “This has helped reduce psychological distress among affected people and boosted their confidence.”
According to Pokharel, landless people will be temporarily managed at various locations, including the Tewa office in Dhapakhel in Lalitpur; the Nepal Electricity Authority Training Center, the Agricultural Development Bank Training Center, and the Nagarkot Drinking Water Training Center in Bhaktapur; and the Red Cross Building in Kavre.
