AIMS delegation meets President Paudel

KATHMANDU: A delegation of the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS), led by its President Paco Borao, met with President Ram Chandra Paudel at the Office of the President on Sunday.

During the meeting, President Paudel thanked Borao for organizing the AIMS Board Meeting in Nepal and added that Nepal’s geographic diversity makes the country ideal for sports tourism.

Citing events like the Everest Marathon and Nepalgunj Marathon, he urged AIMS to help promote long-distance races in Nepal. He also said running fosters health, peace, and prosperity, and added that the government is increasing its investment in sports.

The AIMS Board Meeting, held for the first time in Nepal on June 3–4, was followed by the Nepal International Running Conference and the Nepal Heritage Run Kathmandu 25K race.

President Paudel also congratulated Santoshi Shrestha for winning the women’s category of the 25K race.

On the occasion, T S Thakuri, founding chairperson of the Nepalgunj Marathon, briefed President Paudel, and other members of the delegation, on the Nepal International Running Conference and the Nepal Heritage Run.
