KATHMANDU: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) President Rabi Lamichhane has directed party leaders and cadres to mobilize for the rescue and relief of people affected by flooding in the Budhigandaki River in Chumnubri of Gorkha.
In a social media post on Sunday, Lamichhane said he was deeply saddened by reports that the flood had caused extensive damage in the Chumnubri area and swept away bridges connecting Nyakchet and Philim, as well as Dhading and Gorkha.
“I am deeply saddened by reports that an unprecedented flood in the Budhigandaki River early this morning caused extensive damage in Gorkha’s Chumnubri area and swept away bridges connecting Nyakchet and Philim, as well as Dhading and Gorkha. I extend my heartfelt sympathy to all those affected by this disaster,” he wrote.
Lamichhane also urged people living along the riverbanks from the Budhigandaki to the Trishuli River to exercise extreme caution, stay in safe places and fully comply with instructions from local authorities.
“Since the risk of flood still persists, I also appeal to everyone living along the riverbanks from the Budhigandaki to the Trishuli River to remain highly alert, stay in safe places and fully follow the instructions of local authorities,” he said.
Emphasizing the immediate rescue and relief of affected people, Lamichhane directed party members to coordinate with government agencies and mobilize to provide necessary assistance.
“As the government is actively engaged in the immediate rescue of those affected during this difficult time, I also direct fellow RSP members to coordinate with the concerned authorities and mobilize to provide relief and necessary assistance,” he wrote.
