KATHMANDU: Total net profit of life insurance companies fell 10.53% in fiscal year 2025/26.
According to Nepal Insurance Authority (NIA), the insurance sector regulator, 14 life insurance companies posted a combined net profit of Rs 5.44 billion in 2025/26. Life insurers had reported a combined net profit of Rs 6.08 billion a year earlier.
Data show eight companies saw their net profits increase in the review period, while six experienced a decline.
One company, the state-owned Rastriya Jeevan Beema Company (RJBC), reported a loss of Rs 23.80 million in 2025/26. It had reported a profit of Rs 21.47 million in 2024/25.
IME Life Insurance posted the highest net profit of Rs 584.24 million in 2025/26, an increase of a nominal 0.16% compared to its profit in the previous fiscal year. Reliable Nepal Life Insurance and Nepal Life Insurance followed with net profits of Rs 582.6 million and Rs 465.45 million, respectively, in 2025/26. While Reliable Life posted a modest growth of 2.18%, Nepal Life reported a 15.02% drop in its net profit compared to the previous fiscal year.
IME Life Insurance posted the highest net profit of Rs 584.24 million in 2025/26, an increase of a nominal 0.16% compared to its profit in the previous fiscal year.
On the other hand, Citizen Life Insurance reported the highest net profit growth of 106.63% in the review year. The company’s net profit jumped from Rs 189.13 million in 2024/25 to Rs 390.8 million in 2025/26.
Life Insurance Corporation Nepal was the only other company that posted double-digit growth in its net profit in 2025/26. NIA data show the company’s net profit went up by 28.45% to Rs 405.77 million in the review period. In 2024/25, the company had earned a net profit of Rs 315.89 million.
MetLife Nepal recorded the biggest net profit drop in 2025/26. Data show the company’s net profit fell from Rs 848.21 million in 2024/25 to Rs 379.27 million in 2025/26.
Sun Nepal Life, Asian Life and Sanima Reliance Life posted net profits of Rs 418.59 million, Rs 414.2 million and Rs 383.86 million, respectively. Likewise, Prabhu Mahalaxmi, National Life Insurance and Himalayan Life Insurance earned net profits of Rs 375.59 million, Rs 370.61 million and Rs 317.77 million, respectively.
