Nepse snaps three-day gaining run, closes 7.37 points lower

KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index snapped a three-day winning streak on Friday, shedding 7.37 points to close at 2,643.83 points.

Although the index posted gains during early trading, it lost momentum and soon moved into the red.

Despite the decline in the benchmark index, market turnover improved to Rs 4.27 billion, with 9.75 million units traded through 43,060 transactions.

Friday’s decline came amid broad-based selling pressure, with 164 stocks closing lower during the session. In contrast, 101 stocks gained, while 12 remained unchanged.

Mountain Energy Nepal Ltd topped the gainers as it hit a 15% positive circuit during the session. Sarvottam Paints Ltd and Khanikhola Hydropower Company Ltd were next with gains of 14.99% and 10.09%, respectively. On the other hand, Super Khudi Hydropower Ltd logged the biggest loss of 12.83%.

Agriculture Bond (9 Year) topped the turnover chart with total transactions of Rs 708.79 million. Next were Khanikhola Hydropower Company and Liberty Energy Company with turnovers of Rs 179.89 million and Rs 165.61 million, respectively.

Nine sub-indices posted losses on Friday, while the remaining four ended the session in the green. The biggest gain came from the Others sub-index, which closed 0.44% higher. In contrast, the Trading sub-index logged the biggest loss of 2.57%.
