KATHMANDU: Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) has assured depositors and stakeholders that there are no complexities in the daily operations of the Nepal Investment Mega Bank Ltd (NIMB).
“The central bank is closely monitoring the management and operational status of the bank. Since the bank’s liquidity position and overall financial health indicators are satisfactory as per the regulatory criteria, daily banking operations face no disruption,” the NRB said in a statement.
The NRB issued the statement after a case was filed against the bank’s chairpersons, board of directors, and chief executive officer at the Kathmandu District Court.
Since the matter is sub judice, the central bank added that it was seeking legal opinions to decide on appropriate statutory measures regarding the bank’s governance, board, and executive management based on the nature and gravity of the case.
The Kathmandu District Government Attorney Office registered the case, arguing that the bank unlawfully sold equipment pledged to it by Smart Telecom to recover its loan.
Meanwhile, NIMB has expressed serious concern over the filing of charges against its leadership, maintaining that the underlying transactions were carried out in regular performance of duties as per the prevailing laws, regulatory standards and banking norms.
“Our executive leadership and management remain intact, and routine banking activities, customer services, and daily operations are continuing smoothly without interruption,” it added in a statement on Thursday.
The bank has urged the public, investors, and depositors not to rely on unverified rumors or speculation and to trust only official information. The bank also appealed to concerned authorities for coordination and support to maintain public trust in the banking system, protect employee morale, and preserve overall financial stability.
