IG Karki holds discussion with APG delegation

KATHMANDU: Inspector General of Nepal Police Dan Bahadur Karki met a delegation from the Asia/Pacific Group on Money Laundering (APG) at the Nepal Police Headquarters in Naxal on Tuesday.

During the meeting, Karki briefed the delegation on the steps being taken to remove Nepal from the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) ‘grey list’.

According to a statement issued by the Nepal Police, the discussion focused on the role of the Nepal Police as a key law enforcement agency in implementing the action plan submitted by the Government of Nepal.

On the occasion, Karki also shared information on the Nepal Police’s effective coordination and enforcement efforts with other concerned agencies to strengthen the anti-money laundering system.

The two sides also held discussions on the capacity enhancement of police personnel, technical assistance, and the future course of action.

APG Deputy Executive Secretary David Shannon and Policy Officer Kiya Sasal, among others, were present at the meeting. They expressed a commitment to further strengthen information exchange, mutual cooperation, and international coordination for combating financial crimes, according to the statement.

The head and officials of the Financial Information Unit, the focal point of Nepal’s anti-money laundering (AML) regime, a joint secretary from the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, a director from Nepal Rastra Bank, and police officials were also present in the meeting.
