KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) snapped a five-day winning streak on Wednesday, closing 24.45 points lower at 2,935.94 points.
The benchmark index moved into the red territory right after trading began on Wednesday morning. The index saw lots of ups and downs in a highly volatile session. It, however, posted a significant loss in the final trading hour and ultimately ended the session 0.82% lower.
Nepse had posted a gain of 161.57 points in those five sessions.
Market breadth remained firmly negative, as unit prices of 213 scrips declined, while 45 advanced and seven remained unchanged.
Total turnover improved slightly to Rs 15.09 billion. A total of 35.81 million scrips were traded on the bourse through 138,256 transactions on Wednesday.
Ngadi Group Power Ltd topped the turnover chart with total transactions of Rs 524.74 million. Api Power Company Ltd and Shivam Cement Ltd were next with turnovers of Rs 519.67 million and Rs 478.05 million, respectively.
Among trading groups, only two posted gains, and the remaining 11 ended the session in the red. Trading sub-indices posted the biggest gain of 3.45%, while the Development Bank sub-index posted the biggest decline of 2.32%.
