KATHMANDU: Captain of the Nepali women’s national football team, Sabitra Bhandari, has requested fans and well-wishers to stop sending financial support for her treatment, saying that the required amount for her surgery has already been collected.
In a message shared on her social media page, Bhandari said the word “thank you” feels too small to express her gratitude for the overwhelming support she received within 24 hours.
“I cannot describe in words the support, trust, and love I have received for my treatment,” she wrote. “The funds raised will fully cover my medical expenses.”
According to Bhandari, who is also known as Samba, more than Rs 10 million has been deposited into her Nepali bank account, and an additional 52,000 New Zealand dollars (approximately Rs 4.5 million) has been raised through givealittle.co.nz.
“The total amount is sufficient to cover not only my surgery but also accommodation and transportation costs during treatment in Qatar,” Bhandari said.
According to Bhandari, various personalities and organizations living in Qatar have also promised support for her treatment. “My affiliated club, Wellington Phoenix, is also facilitating the treatment by disbursing the insurance amount and additional support for the surgery and rehabilitation,” she said.
Bhandari said she hopes to return to the field wearing the Nepali jersey soon. “The true gratitude for your love and support will be my comeback. It will be my commitment to win for the country wearing the Nepal jersey again,” she added.
Bhandari launched a fundraiser through her social media pages on Monday, stating that the All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) had backtracked after promising to support her.
