KATHMANDU: Roshan Thapa, then-chairperson of the youth wing of the then CPN (Unified Socialist), has announced that he has quit the Nepali Communist Party (NCP).
Thapa wrote in a social media post that he has stepped down from all responsibilities related to the NCP and the youth organization.
Unified Socialist merged with CPN (Maoist Center) and several left parties to form NCP a few months ago.
“I formally announce my separation from all responsibilities associated with the NCP and its youth wing from today. I extend my heartfelt thanks to all senior leaders, comrades, and fellow fighters who have supported and cooperated with me until now,” he wrote.
However, he has neither disclosed the reason behind leaving the party nor mentioned whether he will join another political party.
He was considered close to Madhav Kumar Nepal when he was with the Unified Socialist. During his tenure as chair of the Unified Socialist’s youth wing, Sanjeev Rai, who is close to Jhalanath Khanal, formed a parallel committee of the youth wing.
There was a power tussle between Thapa and Rai before the Unified Socialist merged with other parties to become the NCP.
