KATHMANDU: All writ petitions filed demanding the restoration of the House of Representatives will now be heard together.
A Constitutional Bench comprising Chief Justice Prakash Man Singh Raut and Justices Sapana Pradhan Malla, Hari Prasad Phuyal, Manoj Kumar Sharma, and Nahakul Subedi issued the order on Wednesday.
The bench ordered that a supplementary writ petition filed by 68 former lawmakers, 65 from the Nepali Congress (NC) and three from other parties, demanding the restoration of the House of Representatives, be heard together with an earlier writ petition filed by eight former NC lawmakers.
The supplementary petition was filed by 65 former NC lawmakers, including Chanda Chaudhary, on Wednesday, seeking to be joined with the earlier petition submitted by eight former NC lawmakers, including former chief whip Shyam Kumar Ghimire, for the restoration of the House of Representatives.
The Supreme Court issued the order while hearing the writ filed by the former lawmakers led by Chaudhary.
With this order of the Constitutional Bench, all previously registered petitions—those filed by eight former Nepali Congress lawmakers, former CPN-UML lawmakers, and other petitioners—will now be heard together.
In addition to the Nepali Congress, the Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) led by Ashok Rai, the Janamat Party, and one independent lawmaker have also signed in support of the demand for the restoration of the House. These former lawmakers went to the Nepali Congress parliamentary party office to sign the petition. The signatories include Hasina Khan of JSP, Goma Labh Sapkota of the Janamat Party, and independent lawmaker Yogendra Mandal.
Similarly, 75 CPN-UML lawmakers have submitted their signatures to the Supreme Court demanding the restoration of the House of Representatives.
