KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Sushila Karki has said that the government is fully committed to establishing a secure environment for the elections.
Speaking at an all-party discussion regarding electoral laws and management held at the Office of the Prime Minister on Monday, she said no terrorist or criminal elements would be able to launch an attack if all parties move forward in unison. “If all 114 political parties stand together, there would be no possibility of instability,” the PM said, appealing to all parties, Gen Z representatives, civil society, the media, and civil servants to help maintain peace.
She also said political parties must reform themselves to achieve the transformation sought by the people. Advising political parties not to project their internal frustrations on the people, Karki said parties must operate in accordance with public sentiment rather than stubbornly clinging to their own rigid stances.
Stating that the people hold the right to choose parties based on their performance, Karki said that merely chanting party slogans is not sufficient. “Everyone must work toward creating a conducive environment for national development,” she said, adding that thecurrent government is working seriously to ensure good governance.
Expressing optimism about the emerging electoral atmosphere due to positive feedback and cooperation from various parties, she called upon all political forces to participate in the election process. “If all parties remain united, no negative elements will be able to incite violence within the country,” she added.
Reflecting on past errors that led to the incidents of September 8 and 9, she said that the government was currently navigating the resulting public outrage and criticism. “Although leaders have become targets of criticism, they must be willing to sacrifice personal interests to ensure national peace and stability,” she added.
