KATHMANDU: Nine leaders, including Acting President Purna Bahadur Khadka, have been tasked with building consensus on the date for the 15th General Convention of Nepali Congress (NC).
An informal meeting of the party’s Central Working Committee held on Friday made the decision.
Joint General Secretary Mahendra Yadav said after the meeting that the Central Working Committee has entrusted a team of nine leaders with the responsibility of forging an agreement on the general convention date.
Vice-President Dhanaraj Gurung; General Secretaries Gagan Thapa and Bishwo Prakash Sharma; Joint General Secretary Mahendra Yadav; former vice presidents Bimalendra Nidhi, Bijay Gachhadar and Prakash Man Singh; and former general secretary Krishna Prasad Sitaula are the other leaders in the team.
“An informal meeting of the Central Working Committee held on Friday decided to form a small team to bring a common proposal. Nine leaders have been given this responsibility,” said Yadav.
He said the nine leaders will meet on Saturday. “We will sit for discussions tomorrow. If possible, we will reach an agreement tomorrow itself and draft a common proposal,” Yadav added. “If consensus is not reached on Saturday, the Central Working Committee meeting may be postponed. The common proposal, once agreed upon, will be presented to the Central Working Committee meeting.”
Earlier, General Secretary Thapa proposed that the Central Working Committee hold the convention from December 13 to 15. Joint General Secretary Yadav countered Thapa’s proposal, proposing that the general convention be held in April.
