KATHMANDU: Top leaders of the Nepali Communist Party (NCP), created through the merger of 10 leftist parties, have pledged to make it the country’s most influential political force.
Speaking at the National Unity Conference at Bhrikuti Mandap, Kathmandu, on Wednesday, NCP Coordinator Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Joint Coordinator Madhav Kumar Nepal said the unified party would revive the communist movement and restore public faith in leftist politics.
Addressing the gathering, Coordinator Dahal declared that no one can now stop their party from becoming the country’s number one political force. Describing the unification of 10 communist parties as an unprecedented, historic and extraordinary event in Nepal’s political history, he said the move had unsettled reactionary elements opposed to left unity.
He added that the unification of 10 parties was only a beginning and hinted at the possibility of further collaboration with other communist groups, including the CPN-UML, to achieve a broader left alliance.
The former CPN (Maoist Center) chairperson also said that the issues raised by recent youth-led movements had compelled the party to confront its own weaknesses, which, he said, had motivated leaders to correct course and launch a renewed political campaign.
Similarly, Joint Coordinator Nepal said the new party had emerged as the mainstream force of Nepal’s communist movement and the centre of hope and trust for the people. “We have accomplished a historic task and made a historic beginning,” he said. “This unification will send ripples through Nepali politics and become a center of confidence and trust for the public.”
Stating that the country is passing through difficult circumstances, Nepal urged other leftist forces to join hands without delay to solve national problems. “Let us not delay. Understand the people’s sentiment and the importance of the moment—let us move forward in unity,” he appealed.
Emphasising the need to accept past shortcomings and rekindle public confidence, Nepal said the new party would work to inspire fresh hope, trust, and determination among Nepali people.
