KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) has criticized the dissolution of the House of Representatives as undemocratic and unconstitutional, stating that it undermines the constitution, citizen rights and the federal democratic republican system.
Issuing a statement, NC Vice President Purna Bahadur Khadka stressed the need to uphold democracy and constitutional norms.
The party expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives and destruction of property during the Gen Z protests on September 8–9, which caused several deaths and extensive damage worth billions. Khadka extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims, including the security personnel affected during the unrest.
“Nepali Congress has already demanded a thorough investigation into the incidents and urged the government to take immediate action,” Khadka said in the statement, condemning the unauthorized intrusions into government buildings, private homes, media houses and financial institutions.
The party has called on the government to begin a proper assessment of the damage without delay.
The statement strongly condemned the physical attacks on senior party leaders, including President and former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba and central committee member Dr. Arju Rana Deuba, calling the assaults inhuman and condemnable.
