KATHMANDU: Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index logged double-digit gains for the second straight session, closing 34.61 points higher at 2,794.61 points on Wednesday.
Although the benchmark index breached the psychological 2,800-point level during the session, it lost momentum and erased some gains, but still ended the day 1.25% higher.
Total turnover increased to Rs 14.03 billion – the highest since March 2, when shares worth Rs 14.11 billion changed hands on the bourse. A total of 43.11 million units were traded during the session through 99,505 transactions.
Unit prices of 193 scrips went up on Wednesday, while 55 fell. Butwal Power Company logged the highest turnover of the session with Rs 618.72 million worth of shares traded. Radhi Bidyut Company Ltd and Sanima Mai Hydropower Ltd followed with turnovers of Rs 566.95 million and Rs 399.25 million, respectively.
Except for the Trading sub-index, which went down by a marginal 0.18%, all sectoral indices ended the session in the green territory. The biggest gain came from the Development Bank sub-index, which was up by 3.86%. Next were Microfinance and Non-Life Insurance, which ended the day 1.85% higher. The market heavyweight Banking sub-index also gained 1.59%.
