KATHMANDU: The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) and the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) continued their protest in the House of Representatives on Monday, demanding the formation of a high-level investigation committee into the visit visa scandal.
As soon as the House meeting began, RSP lawmakers stood up in protest, following which Speaker Dev Raj Ghimire gave time to RSP lawmaker Ashok Kumar Chaudhary to speak.
Speaking in the meeting, Chaudhary said that the current ruling structure serves as a protective shield for those involved in corruption and human trafficking. Stating that his party has been raising its voice against human trafficking for the past 47 days, he said the participation of unauthorized individuals in a UN meeting in Spain has exposed the depth of the visit visa issue.
Chaudhary added that no one has given the prime minister the authority to protect ministers involved in bribery and trafficking. He demanded immediate action against such ministers.
Similarly, RPP Chairperson Rajendra Lingden questioned the whereabouts of the “Good Governance Commission,” once chaired by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli. “The people and the country are looking for it now,” he said.
Lingden also accused Oli of protecting ministers implicated in corruption scandals. “One after another, ministers are being exposed in financial misconduct. If there is any moral sense or commitment to good governance left, shouldn’t these ministers resign? Shouldn’t they be dismissed?” he questioned.
