KATHMANDU: The Nepalgunj Night Run, Nepal’s only 10-km nighttime road race, has officially been affiliated with the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS).
Held annually on the Constitution Day (September) on Surkhet Road, the event was launched last year and is now listed in AIMS’ global calendar. With this affiliation, Nepalgunj becomes the first Nepali city to host two AIMS-recognized events: the Dhara Nepalgunj Marathon and the Nepalgunj Night Run.
“This recognition will help brand the city and keep international participants informed,” TS Thakuri, founder of the Nepalgunj Marathon and Nepal’s AIMS representative, said.
Efforts are underway to get AIMS recognition for other races under the Nepalgunj Marathon banner, such as the Kathmandu 25K Heritage Run, Karnali Half Marathon and Gaughat Green Run, according to Thakuri.
Last month, AIMS President Paco Borao visited Nepalgunj and reviewed the marathon route during his visit for the Kathmandu 25K Heritage Race and the Nepal International Running Conference.
