KATHMANDU: CPN-UML) is preparing actively for the “People’s Victory Day: Youth Celebration” program to be held in Kathmandu on Thursday, on the occasion of Loktantra Diwas (Democracy Day ).
According to UML’s Standing Committee Member Dr Rajan Bhattarai, who is also the in-charge of the Bagmati Province Committee of the party, preparations are ongoing to make the program effective. “Following the decision of the party Secretariat to hold the program, we have issued circulars down to the ward level, instructing each ward to ensure the participation of a specified number of youths,” he said, adding that all 119 municipalities, who are members of the Bagmati Province Committee, have been assigned responsibilities.
To supervise the preparations, office-bearers of the province committee have been given specific roles, according to Bhattarai. “Additionally, gatherings of province-level people’s organizations and in-charges of municipal committees have also been held to plan for the event,” he added.
On Sunday, the organizing committee held a meeting with elected representatives from wards across the Kathmandu Valley to discuss the program. Bhattarai added that discussions were held with core city leaders from Kathmandu, Patan, and Bhaktapur on the same day.
“We plan to mobilize the entire party cadre and engage elected representatives, who have direct connections with the people, to make the program grand and well-organized. Additionally, people’s organizations have held meetings with central office-bearers and are intensively preparing for the event,” he said.
Bhattarai said Thursday’s event will counter efforts that are being made against the federal democratic republican system. itself. “It will demonstrate that the Nepali people, especially the younger generation, stand firmly in favor of the republic,” he said, accusing certain forces of exploiting societal frustrations to sabotage the constitution and republic. “A large number of youths will take to the streets.”
Prime Minister and CPN-UML Chairperson KP Sharma Oli and other leaders are scheduled to address the event.
