KATHMANDU: The government has decided to form a committee to register Bitauri land in the names of people who have been living on such land.
A Cabinet meeting held in Singha Durbar on Friday approved the formation order for a committee tasked with registering Bitauri land in the names of its occupants, on a proposal from the Ministry of Land Management, Cooperatives, and Poverty Alleviation, and Federal Affairs and General Administration.
Bitauri land refers to government or public land in market centers, towns and urban areas of Tarai region that people have traditionally occupied or used for residential or commercial purposes but do not privately own or hold formal land ownership certificates for.
The meeting also decided to authorize the finance ministry to sign a mandate agreement with the World Bank for the earthquake catastrophe bond.
Similarly, the cabinet decided to promote Achyut Mani Neupane, joint attorney general in the government attorney group of the Nepal Judicial Service, to the special class of gazetted officers and appoint him Secretary of the Commission of Investigation on Enforced Disappeared Persons.
The meeting also decided to provide cash prizes to athletes, coaches and managers of the women’s kabaddi and karate teams who won medals at the 20th Asian Games held in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan.
