Splitting political parties not on our agenda: Oli

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has said that his government is not involved in breaking up any political party.

Addressing the first meeting of the winter session of the House of Representatives on Friday, he clarified that the government has no agenda to fragment or dismantle any party.

“Breaking or destroying parties is not on this government’s menu, rest assured,” Oli said. “The priority of such a strong government of the Nepali Congress (NC) and CPN-UML does not include such petty actions.”

He also refuted the notion that Parliament belongs to the opposition. “It is wrong to say that Parliament belongs to the opposition. If Parliament belongs to the opposition, then what is our role? Parliament belongs to everyone. The government brings business here for discussion,” he added.

Oli also commented on the previous government led by CPN (Maoist Center) Chairperson Pushpa Kamal Dahal. “At that time, good governance was not being implemented through policy and structural reforms but through actions of ministers and officials in front of cameras. There was one performance on stage and another behind the scenes,” he added.

He claimed that such tendencies no longer exist in the current government.

Oli also said that the recent legal reforms introduced through ordinances have exceeded the expectations of industrialists and businesspeople.
