Nepal APF Club crowned ANFA Women’s League champion

KATHMANDU: Nepal APF Club has been crowned the ANFA Women’s League champion.

In the final played at Dasharath Stadium in Kathmandu on Wednesday, Nepal APF defeated Nepal Police Club (NPC) 4-0. Sabita Rana Magar scored two goals for the winning side, while Saru Limbu and Anu Lama scored one each.

The first half was a dull affair, with both sides failing to create opportunities. Sabita Rana Magar scored from close range off Saru Limbu’s pass to give Nepal APF Club a 1-0 lead in the 64th minute. Saru Limbu doubled the lead in the 69th minute with a powerful shot that found the net after Rashmi Kumari Ghising’s header struck the post and fell into her path. Sabita scored her second and Nepal APF’s third goal in the 83rd minute, capitalizing on Priti Rai’s pass. Anu Lama netted APF’s fourth goal in injury time.

With this, Nepal APF defeated NPC three times in the league—first in the league stage, then in the Super League stage, and finally in the final. Nepal APF Club finished the league undefeated. It’s only draw was with the NPC in the Super League which was played in the double round robin format.

Tribhuvan Army Club, Waling Municipality, and Bagmati Province were the other teams that played in the Super League. Bagmati Youth Club, Sankata FC, Chandrapur Municipality, Karnali Province, and Sudurpaschim Province were eliminated in the league stage. However, Bagmati Youth Club got the opportunity to play in the Super League after Koshi Province withdrew.

NPC entered the final by defeating Bagmati Province in the Eliminator and Tribhuvan Army Club in the second Qualifier. Nepal APF Club, on the other hand, defeated the Trihuvan Army Club in the 1st Qualifier. Tribhuvan Army Club, which was leading Nepal APF Club 1-0 until the 78th minute in the first Qualifier, conceded two late goals, costing them a spot in the final.

Nepal APF Club received Rs 1 million as prize money, while NPC took home Rs 500,000.
