Power supply will be cut if dues aren’t cleared in 15 days: Ghising

KATHMANDU: Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) Executive Director Kulman Ghising has warned that power supply to industries will be cut again if they fail to clear dues within 15 days.

Speaking at a press conference held after the government decided to restore the power supply to industries within 24 hours, Ghising said the utility has restored the supply in compliance with the government’s directive. “We must implement the directions of the government. However, if industries do not clear their outstanding dues within 15 days, we will again cut power supply,” he added.

The NEA chief also said that NEA won’t issue new electricity bills to industries. “We have already issued bills with sufficient evidence. There won’t be new bills,” Ghising said. “If the tariffs cannot be collected during this period, the government must take responsibility.”

Ghising also insisted that regulatory agencies and courts have approved the electricity bills issued by the NEA to industries. “Courts have dismissed cases filed by industries challenging our bills. Our regulatory agency has given us the go-ahead to recover outstanding dues from industries consuming electricity through dedicated feeder and trunk lines,” he added.
