Police rescue girls from forced prostitution in Mulpani

KATHMANDU: Police have arrested a woman on charges of holding girls captive for prostitution in her Kathmandu home.

The Human Trafficking Investigation Bureau of Nepal Police raided the woman’s home in Mulpani, Kageshwori Manohara Municipality-4, acting on a tip-off. The team detained Sita Gotame, originally from Tadi Rural Municipality-3, according to SP Gautam Mishra, the spokesperson for the bureau. The woman had been keeping the girl under the pretense of employing her as domestic help, he added.

According to the bureau, the woman had promised the victim a monthly wage of Rs 20,000 and was charging clients Rs 1,000-3,000 per visit.

Three days ago, police had rescued four underage girls from the same house.
