KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index extended its gaining streak for a fourth straight session, rising 61.61 points to close at a 28-month high of 2,485.94 points on Sunday.
The market opened for trading at 2,431.39 points and initially dropped to an intra-day low of 2,409.63 points. The benchmark index, however, picked up and reached an intra-day high of 2,494.06 points before erasing some gains but eventually ended the session 2.54% higher. With this, the index has gained 245.43 points over the past four sessions.
Share prices of 181 companies advanced on the day, while 56 declined and five remained unchanged. Share prices of three companies hit the positive circuit of 10% during the session. Soaltee Hotel Ltd logged the highest turnover of the session with shares worth Rs 341.09 million traded. Next were Himalayan Reinsurance Ltd and Kumari Bank Ltd with turnovers of Rs 306.74 million and Rs 279.36 million, respectively.
All trading groups ended the session in the green. The biggest gain came from the Trading sub-index, which was up by 6.8%. Next on the list were Hotels & Tourism and Banking with gains of 4.21% and 3.86%, respectively.
Shares worth Rs 15.23 billion were traded on the bourse on Sunday through 177,467 transactions. A total of 41.19 million units of securities were traded on the bourse.
