KATHMANDU: The government has picked ambassadors for eight countries, including India, the US, and the UK.
A cabinet meeting held on Friday made recommendations to fill eight out of 11 vacant ambassadorial positions. The government decided to recall 11 ambassadors appointed by the previous Maoist Center-Nepali Congress coalition government on June 6.
A meeting between Prime Minister and CPN (Maoist Center) Chairperson Pushpa Kamal Dahal, CPN-UML Chairperson KP Sharma Oli, and Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) President and Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane on Thursday reached an understanding to share the ambassadorial positions among themselves.
According to a minister, former chief secretary Dr Lok Darshan Regmi has been recommended for India, Dr Bijan Pant for the UK, and former secretary Chandra Ghimire for the US.
Similarly, Sushil Pyakurel has been recommended for South Korea, Sumnima Tuladhar for Denmark, Pushpa Raj Ranjitkar for Spain, Netra Prasad Timilsina for Malaysia, and Abu Sufyan Khan for Saudi Arabia.
