KATHMANDU: The US have clinched the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup League 2 title with a four-wicket win over Namibia in Dallas on Wednesday.
With the win, the USA have amassed 47 points from 34 matches. They have two matches remaining in WCL 2, against the UAE and Namibia. No other team can finish above the USA in the WCL 2 standings, even if they lose both their remaining matches. Only Oman, who have eight matches remaining, can equal the US on points if they win all eight matches and the USA lose both of their remaining games.
USA skipper Monank Patel (108) scored a superb century, as his side chased down Namibia’s total of 298 for nine with four wickets and seven balls to spare in Dallas on Wednesday. He received support from Shehan Jayasuriya, who scored 74 off 75 balls, and opener Smit Patel, who hit 50 off 62 balls.
Earlier, Namibia scored 298 for nine, as opener Michael van Lingen hit a superb 124 off 121 balls. Captain Gerhard Erasmus struck a quickfire 76 off 45 balls to take Namibia close to the 300-run mark.
Namibia now have two matches remaining in WCL 2, against the UAE and the USA. Victories in both matches would strengthen the African side’s chances of finishing in the top four and progressing to the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier.
The top four teams in the WCL 2 standings progress to the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier.
