KATHMANDU: Chief of Army Staff Prabhu Ram Sharma has emphasized the need for collective efforts and commitment towards safeguarding Nepal’s independence, sovereignty, geographical integrity, nationalism, self-respect, border security, economic development and prosperity.
Inaugurating the 9th high-level National Security Training organized jointly by the Ministry of Defense and the Nepal Army at the Military Command and Staff College on Wednesday, Sharma said it is necessary to formulate and implement policies by studying and analyzing both external and internal security environments to protect national interests. “The nation has been adopting various policies and strategies to ensure the safety of its people, both geographically and socioeconomically,” Sharma added.
Sating that the ongoing conflicts and wars on the international stage hint at increasing polarization among powerful nations, Sharma said small countries were facing challenges in maintaining their existence amid confrontations among global powers.
Also speaking on the occasion, Kiran Raj Sharma, secretary at the Ministry of Defense, said strong communication, coordination, and cooperation among state agencies is needed to ensure robust security. “Effective diplomacy hinges on integrated and coordinated responses to various internal and external challenges that could disrupt the country’s security,” he added.
According to Baburam Shrestha, the principal of the college, 193 individuals have received training since the inception of the high-level security training program in 2016.
The training, which commenced on Wednesday, will continue till March 28. A total of 30 participants from various ministries, constitutional bodies, universities, and security agencies are participating in the program.
