KATHMANDU: The market extended its losing streak for a sixth straight session, as the benchmark Nepal Stock Exchange (index) closed trading 26.81 points lower at 1,979.02 points on Sunday.
Although the benchmark index posted gains initially, it lost momentum soon after to eventually end the session 1.33% lower. Share prices of 208 companies declined on the day, while 38 advanced, and four remained unchanged. Sun Nepal Life Insurance Company Ltd logged the highest turnover of the session with Rs 251.81 million units of shares traded. Himalayan Reinsurance Company Ltd was at the top in terms of the number of transactions as the company’s shares changed hands through 6,218 transactions on the day.
Among trading groups, except for the Finance and Manufacturing & Process sub-indices which posted nominal gains, all other sub-indices ended the session in the red. The biggest loss came from the Hydropower sub-index, which was down by 2.42%. Investment and Banking were next with losses of 1.86% and 1.63%, respectively.
Shares worth Rs 3.08 billion were traded on the bourse on Sunday through 71,880 transactions.
