Nepse down 23.82 points

KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index fell by 23.82 points to close trading at 1,829.65 points on Tuesday.

The market began experiencing a downturn right after trading commenced at 1,853.87 points. The losing streak persisted throughout the session and the market eventually ended the day 1.28% lower.

The benchmark index had posted a nominal growth of 1.39 points on Monday.

Except for the Mutual Fund sub-index, which saw a  marginal growth of 0.42%, all other sub-indices ended the day in the red. The highest loss came from the Manufacturing & Processing sub-index, which fell by 3.12%. Following closely were the Microfinance and Hotels & Tourism Index, which came down by 2.89% and 2.62%, respectively. The market heavyweight Banking sub-index was also down by 0.53%.

Share prices of only 31 companies advanced on the day, while 201 declined, and five remained unchanged. Himalayan Distillery Ltd logged the highest turnover of the day, with Rs 77.93 million worth of shares of the liquor market changing hands. Next on the list were Sonapur Minerals and Oil Ltd and Shivam Cement, with turnovers of Rs 43.92 million and Rs 37.05 million, respectively.

Shares worth Rs 950.48 million were traded on the bourse through 37,706 transactions. Both the daily turnover and the number of transactions were down compared to Monday.
