KATHMANDU: A total of 37 Nepali nationals deported from the United States arrived in Kathmandu on Sunday night via a chartered flight.

According to Anjan Neupane, spokesperson at the Tribhuvan International Airport Immigration Office, the chartered flight carried 32 Nepali men and 5 women.

The US Embassy had informed Nepali authorities about the deportation about a week ago. After completing initial immigration procedures, the deportees were handed over to the Human Trafficking Investigation Bureau (HTIB) of Nepal Police for investigation.

SSP Krishna Pangeni of the Human Trafficking Investigation Bureau said the deportees would be allowed to return home after questioning unless a formal complaint is filed.

Some of the deported individuals were seen carrying bags as they exited the airport, while others appeared empty-handed.

Since US President Donald Trump began his second term in office, immigration policies have become more stringent. From January to May 2025 alone, 140 Nepalis have been deported from the US.
