KATHMANDU: Jaari 2, written and directed by poet Upendra Subba, is set to hit theaters during the upcoming Dashain festival (late September). The production team, which recently completed filming, however, has not specified the exact release date.
Jaari 2 is a sequel to Subba’s hit film Jaari, which centred on the Limbu tradition of paying compensation, typically in money or goods, to the former husband or his family when a woman remarries.
In the first look of the movie, released on Tuesday, lead actress Miruna Magar is seen in traditional Limbu attire with a child, presumably her daughter, while Dayahang Rai, who plays Miruna’s husband, is shown playing a chyabrung drum.
The cast also includes Bijay Baral, Richa Sharma, Buddhi Tamang, Pushkar Gurung, Prem Subba, Maotse Gurung, Manahang Lawati, Bishnu Moktan, Kamal Mani Nepal, Anil Subba, Rekha Limbu, Vedana Rai, and Sirjana Ninglekhu.
Produced under the banners of Baasuri Films and Kabaddi Films, Jaari 2 carries the tagline ‘Song of Chyabrung’ and is produced by Ram Babu Gurung.
Subba’s directorial debut, Jaari, was a major box office success, grossing over Rs 170 million.
