KATHMANDU: Maha Shivaratri is being celebrated across the country worshipping Lord Shiva. It is an auspicious Hindu festival celebrated annually in reverence of Lord Shiva, one of the principal deities in Hinduism.

Translated as ‘The Great Night of Shiva’, Shivaratri falls on the 13th day of the dark fortnight in the Bikram Sambat month of Falgun. This sacred occasion holds immense significance in Nepal and across the Indian subcontinent where Hindus reside. They observe the festival with various rituals, prayers, and offerings to honor Lord Shiva.

The Pashupatinath Temple in Kathmandu is drawing visitors from the wee hours of Friday. Sadhus, who have come all the way from different parts of India, is one of the major attractions of the festival at the temple.
