KATHMANDU: The eighth edition of the Prime Minister Cup Men’s National Cricket Tournament is kicking off on Saturday. A total of 10 teams will compete in the country’s premier one-day domestic competition.

The tournament features seven provincial sides alongside three departmental teams—Tribhuvan Army Club (TAC), Nepal Police Club (NPC), and Nepal Armed Police Force Club (APF).

The matches will be held in Bagmati and Madhesh provinces. According to fixtures released by the Cricket Association Nepal (CAN), five matches each will be held at the Mulpani Cricket Ground and Lower Mulpani Cricket Ground in Kathmandu. Similarly,  19 matches will be held at the Narayani Cricket Ground in Birgunj and 17 at the Shree Ram Janaki International Stadium in Janakpur.

The competition will follow a round-robin format, with each team playing one another once. The top two teams at the end of the league stage will advance to the final scheduled for April 17.

First held in 2017, the Prime Minister Cup has been organized annually except in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. NPC are the most successful side in the tournament’s history, having won the title four times, including the inaugural edition, which they shared with the TAC, and the most recent in 2025. Nepal Armed Police Force Club and Tribhuvan Army Club have each secured two titles, with Police and Army sharing the inaugural crown.

The top four teams of the PM Cup qualify for the 2027 Jay Trophy Men’s Elite Cup—a premier three-day red ball tournament.
