KATHMANDU: A late-evening passenger bus service was launched in Kathmandu Valley on Monday, coinciding with the New Year 2083 BS.
The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) introduced the service in coordination with Sajha Yatayat and other local governments in the Kathmandu Valley. The buses will operate daily from 8 pm to 11 pm.
The initiative is expected to benefit commuters who face difficulties travelling at night, as public transport in the Valley typically operates only until 8 or 9 pm.
The buses will run on two routes. The first route will start from Lagankhel and pass through Jawalakhel, Thapathali, Shahidgate, Lainchaur, Maharajgunj and Budhanilkantha, before returning along the same route.
Similarly, the second route will start from Tribhuvan International Airport and pass through Baneshwar, Thapathali, Tripureshwar, Kalimati, Kalanki, Satungal and Thankot, before returning along the same route.
According to KMC, all buses are equipped with CCTV cameras, and City Police personnel will be deployed on board to ensure passenger safety.
