One dead, eight injured in Dhankuta road accident

ITAHARI: One person died and eight others were injured in a road accident in Dhankuta on Sunday afternoon.

According to the Koshi Provincial Police Office in Biratnagar, Sanskriti Rai (9) of Pakhribas-10 died when a pick-up heading from Hile to Chungbang lost control and fell 50 meters below the road. She passed away while receiving treatment at Dhankuta District Hospital.

The injured have been identified as Devika Khatri (36) and Abhinash Khatri (14) of Dhankuta-4, Rabika Rai (22), Lakshmi Rai (60), and Sanu Ale (40) of Pakhribas-10, and Devi Khatri (37), Ajit Khatri (10), and Sunita Khatri of Dhankuta 4. The injured are receiving treatment at Dhankuta District Hospital and BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences, Dharan.

The District Police Office, Dhankuta has arrested the driver of the pick-up, Ram Mani Rai (55), for further investigation.
