Oli seeks clarification over delay in TU Cricket Ground upgrade

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has sought clarification from the officials of the Ministry of Urban Development and representatives of the construction company over delays in the construction of parapet and installation of floodlights at the TU International Cricket Stadium in Kirtipur, Kathmandu.

During a meeting called by Oli on Monday, representatives of the construction company cited delays in acquiring land from Tribhuvan University and the legal process required for tree clearance as the major factors that caused the delay. They also said that rainfall complicated the work, even though the company had deployed workers in three shifts.

Oli wrote in a social media post after the meeting that representatives of the construction company have expressed commitment to complete all the tasks within two months. “Regardless of the challenges, the work should have been completed by the agreed deadline. I have made it clear that failure to meet the extended timeline will not be tolerated,” Oli added.

He expressed confidence that all work in the cricket ground would be completed by mid-July.

The first meeting of the Oli cabinet decided to install floodlights and build a parapet at the TU Cricket Ground within 300 days. The 300-day deadline is expiring on May 7.
