KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has claimed that his government was not responsible for the decision to provide Rs 200,000 to disqualified Maoist combatants.
Talking to reporters in Chitwan on Monday, Dahal stated that the decision was made by the Nepali Congress-led government in 2014. “This government is only implementing the decision taken nine years ago,” he added.
Dahal also claimed that the decision was made after several rounds of discussions with then-finance minister Bishnu Poudel and peace minister Top Bahadur Rayamajhi. “It was challenged in court at that time. We are implementing it now as the court has given its go ahead,” Dahal added.
Dahal, who is also the Chairman of CPN (Maoist Center), clarified that the money will be provided to the disqualified combatants in installments due to the poor financial situation. He refuted claims by some media outlets that his government made the decision, reiterating that it was made by the previous administration.
